Polyface is a working farm that receives no taxpayer money via government grants or subsidies. We stay in business by using our time productively doing important daily tasks. As much as we would love to spend time with everyone who comes by, we simply can't. We have literally hundreds of visitors a week. Here is our farm tour and visit policy:
- SELF-GUIDED TOUR: We have an open door policy. Anyone may come anytime Monday through Saturday to see anything anywhere. Please respect the privacy of our homes. We have a completely transparent farm operation and truly welcome the integrity that this openness engenders. If you do this on a Monday - Friday (we are closed Sundays) and want to also purchase products, please make an appointment in order for us to determine if someone can be near the sales building at that time.
- ESCORTED TOURS: $500 led by Matt Rales, official Polyface Tour Guide.
Offered four times per month, these 2-plus hour tours are the same price
whether you bring 1 person or 100. These walking tours cover about 1.5 miles and include chicks, pastured broilers, pastured eggs, pigaerator pork, salad bar
beef, and pastured turkeys. Except for the Polyface Intensive Discovery Seminars, this is the most intimate Polyface experience. The tours do change during the year because Polyface adheres to seasonal differences. Bring comfortable walking shoes and plenty of questions. For school classes and small groups wanting customized and individualized attention, these tours are tailored to your needs.
- LUNATIC TOURS: $10.50 per person aged 13 and up, led by either Joel
or Daniel. Offered two times per month, these genuine hay wagon tours are limited to
the first 100 people to reserve spots. For both young and old this meandering driving tour stops at all the different pastured animals, where the Polyface lunatic farmers sound forth on everything from eartthworms to earth muffins. More fun than a theme park roller coaster ride, this tour has something for everyone, from farmers to corporate executives. Even McDonald's junkies are welcome. You'll never be the same. The diverse people who attend these is profound, and generates unexpected conversations. Epiphanies are normal.

- Be sure to arrive 20 minutes prior to start of tour, we will not backtrack for late comers. The tour is only 2 hours; we will not run longer if you are late.
Matt Rales
Matt Rales comes to Swoope from Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies from Middlebury College in Vermont in 2006. He then spent a year as a full-time apprentice at Polyface. He is now Apprentice Manager at Polyface and conducts comprehensive farm tours for anyone seeking to learn about grass-based livestock production, and its healing potential for people and the environment.

Matt has worked for the Weston A. Price Foundation and contributes regularly to the Wise Traditions quarterly journal. A life-long “dog person,” he enjoys working with Polyface’s poultry-guardian dogs “Jack” and “Faith.” Matt continues to pursue a career in grass-based farming at Polyface where he hopes to facilitate landscape healing and rural revitalization through hands-on farming and education.
